Numismatics at home in Asturias: I will come to your house for free to appraise your collection
Compartir
If you live in Candás, Luanco, Pola de Siero, Lugones, Villaviciosa, Posada de Llanera, Nava, or Infiesto and you have old banknotes, coins, or a relative's collection at home, you have likely already realized that there is no coin shop nearby. To have someone tell you what you have, you have to take the car, go down to Gijón or Oviedo, find parking, and carry your albums with you.
There is no need for that. I will come to your home, in any municipality in Asturias, to see your old banknotes and coins, without charging you for the visit. I only ask one thing first: that you send me some photos of what you have via WhatsApp. That way, I can tell you if it's worth the trip and I won't make you waste your afternoon.

I am Fran, from Iberoamericana Banknotes, a coin shop in Gijón and an authorized PMG dealer. I buy banknotes, coins, and entire collections, and I will explain piece by piece what you have before offering you anything.
How the free home visit works
- Send me photos via WhatsApp. They don't need to be perfect: just some general views of the albums or boxes and a few close-ups of pieces, both front and back.
- I will reply in less than 24 hours. I will tell you, honestly, if there is anything of value or if it is common material. Often, the photos are enough to give you an assessment.
- If it's worth it, I will come to your home. We will agree on a day and time that works for you, I will review everything with you there, and I will make you a firm offer. If it doesn't convince you, no problem.
The visit is free and without obligation throughout all of Asturias, including small towns and rural areas, and it is for exactly what it says: old banknotes and coins. I do not charge for travel or appraisal.
Why do I ask for photos before I come?
Because I prefer to be honest from the start. Most collections found in homes consist of very common pesetas and coins: there are tons of banknotes from the 1920s, Franco-era coins, and pesetas from the eighties still in existence, and with very few exceptions, only perfect specimens are worth anything.
If, based on the photos, I see that is what you have, I will tell you straight out and you will save yourself the trouble of waiting for me. And if I see something interesting—19th-century banknotes, silver, gold, local Civil War banknotes, items in exceptional condition, or a large and organized collection—then yes, I will come see it in person.
If you want to get an idea beforehand, you have a guide on which peseta banknotes and coins have value.

If your town does not appear on the list, it doesn't matter: write to me anyway.
What I examine at home: old banknotes and coins
- Old banknotes from the Bank of Spain, especially from the 19th and early 20th centuries. I explain this in detail in my guide to selling old banknotes.
- Local and Civil War banknotes in Asturias: those from the Council of Asturias and León, those from the Gijón branch from 1936, and those issued by town councils. Collectors seek them out quite often (you have more information in local banknotes in Asturias).
- Old Spanish coins: silver, gold, and rare pesetas, whether loose or in a collection.
- Collections and inheritances of banknotes and coins: albums, boxes, envelopes, folders.
- Foreign old banknotes and coins, especially from Latin America.
If you have an inheritance with gold or silver coins, here is what to do step by step: gold and silver coin inheritance in Asturias.
What photos to send me
- One or two general photos of the entire set: albums, boxes, or bags, just as they are.
- The pieces that seem oldest or rarest to you, front and back.
- In good light, during the day and near a window, without flash.
And in the meantime: do not clean the coins, do not iron or wash the banknotes, and do not remove them from their albums. Any of those things will irreversibly decrease their value.
Send me the photos and I will tell you if it's worth it for me to come

Your peace of mind during the visit
- You can be accompanied. It's your house: have whoever you want present.
- I examine everything in front of you and explain what each piece is and why it's worth what it's worth.
- Nothing leaves your home without being paid for. I pay on the spot via immediate transfer and provide you with a document listing what I am taking and the amount.
- No pressure. If you prefer to think about it, consult your family, or ask for another opinion, go ahead.
- I also appraise without buying, for inheritance distributions or insurance purposes.
Would you rather come to me or send it?
You can do that, too. I have a shop in Gijón, Calle Cabrales 77, next to Parque de Begoña, by appointment: you can find details at coin shop in Gijón. And for a few loose pieces, often the most comfortable option is to appraise them via photos and, if you are interested in the offer, send them to me: I pay for the shipping.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the home visit cost anything?
No. Throughout all of Asturias, the visit to see old banknotes and coins is free and without obligation. The only condition is that you first send me some photos of the collection via WhatsApp so I know what is there and don't make you waste your afternoon.
Do you also go to towns and rural areas?
Yes, and that is precisely for that purpose: Carreño, Siero, Villaviciosa, Llanera, Gozón, Nava, Piloña, the East, the West, and the mining valleys. If you live in a municipality without a coin shop, I will go.
Why do I have to send photos beforehand?
Because many collections of pesetas and common coins are not worth much, and I prefer to tell you that through photos rather than showing up at your house for nothing. If I see interesting pieces in the photos, we will arrange a visit.
What if I don't want to sell after the visit?
No problem. The visit does not commit you to anything: I will explain what you have and what it is worth, and you decide calmly.
How do you pay if I sell during the visit?
On the spot, via immediate transfer, and I leave you a document with what I am taking and the amount. Nothing leaves your house without being paid for.
Do you appraise inheritances even if we don't want to sell?
Yes. If the family needs to know what is there for a distribution or for insurance, I will provide the appraisal anyway, with no obligation to sell.
Write to me with some photos and I will tell you today if it's worth it for me to go to your home.
