Collection: Banknotes from Cameroon

Cameroon issues currency within the BEAC CFA franc, shared with five other countries. What distinguishes its banknotes is the issuer letter: a single initial in the serial number identifies that the specimen was intended for Cameroon.

Before the common CFA

Issues prior to 1993 bore the name of the country printed on the banknote, not just a letter. Those pieces are easier to attribute and much more sought after, because there is no need to know the code to know where they are from.

A country with two heritages

Cameroon was a German colony and was later divided between France and the United Kingdom, leaving behind a bilingual country. Its German colonial issues are among the rarest African pieces in existence.
