Numismatics in Castropol: appraisal and purchase of old banknotes and coins
Compartir
There's no need to look for a coin shop in Castropol open to the public here: I buy old banknotes and coins, collections, and inheritances throughout the council of Castropol, and I will come to your home to see them without charging for the visit. You can also come to my shop in Gijón, at Calle Cabrales 77.

I'm Fran, from Iberoamericana Banknotes (Gijón), an authorized PMG dealer. I examine the pieces with you present and tell you what each one is before we talk about money.
Old banknotes and coins in Castropol
Castropol and Figueras look out over the Eo estuary. It is a land of sailors and emigrants, and in its homes, it is not uncommon to find coins and banknotes from other countries alongside the usual pesetas.
What appears most often in homes in this coastal and seafaring area:
- pesetas from the port and canning industry years
- the occasional silver coin from weddings or baptisms
- banknotes and coins brought back by sailors and emigrants
Two ways to show me your collection
- I will come to your home, free and without obligation. You send me photos via WhatsApp, I'll reply in less than 24 hours, and if it's worth it, I will go to Castropol, Figueras, Barres, or wherever you live, on a day that works for you. I examine everything in front of you and, if we reach an agreement, I pay you on the spot via bank transfer.
- You come to my shop in Gijón. I am at Calle Cabrales 77, next to Parque de Begoña, by appointment. We'll look at it calmly, with a magnifying glass and good light, and you'll leave with a firm offer.
I prefer to be clear from the beginning: of what comes out of the drawers, almost everything is pesetas and very common coins. Tons of those are preserved and, with few exceptions, only those in impeccable condition have value. That is why I look at photos before I go. What I do want to see: Bank of Spain banknotes from the 19th and early 20th centuries, local Civil War banknotes in Asturias, silver, gold, and large collections. I explain it in which peseta banknotes and coins have value.
