Old banknotes and coins in El Franco
El Franco, with La Caridad as its capital and the small port of Viavélez, is a fishing and farming municipality. Many families have kept pesetas and some silver coins for generations.
What appears most often in homes in this coastal and seafaring area:
- banknotes and coins brought by sailors and emigrants
- pesetas from the days of the port and the cannery
- the occasional silver coin from weddings or baptisms
You choose: I come to you or you come to me
- I travel to your home for free. With a few photos via WhatsApp, I can tell you in less than 24 hours if it's worth me coming. If it is, I'll head over to La Caridad, Viavélez, or Valdepares, or to your village, check everything in front of you, and pay you via bank transfer on the spot if we reach an agreement.
- You come to my shop in Gijón. I am at Calle Cabrales 77, next to Begoña Park, by appointment. We can look at them calmly, with a magnifying glass and good light, and you'll leave with a firm offer.
I prefer to be clear from the beginning: of what comes out of the drawers, almost everything is pesetas and very common coins. Tons of those are preserved, and, with rare exceptions, only those in pristine condition have value. That's why I look at the photos before going. What I do want to see: Banco de España banknotes from the 19th and early 20th centuries, local Civil War banknotes in Asturias, silver, gold, and large collections. I explain this in which peseta banknotes and coins have value.
