Bruneian Banknotes

Brunei is a sultanate the size of Navarre, with half a million inhabitants, and its dollar is worth exactly the same as the Singapore dollar. This is no coincidence: both countries signed an interchangeability agreement in 1967 that remains in force.

Two countries, one parity

A Brunei dollar is accepted in Singapore and vice versa, at par and without commission. It is one of the very few living cases of monetary parity between two independent states, and it leads to collecting them as a pair with Singapore.

The entire modern series is made of plastic, featuring the portrait of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, golden mosques, and tropical rainforests. Brunei is one of the wealthiest countries per capita in the world thanks to oil, and its banknotes have a finish to match.
