Banknotes of Cyprus

Cyprus adopted the euro in 2008 and its pound ceased to be issued. It is one of the smallest and least collected pre-euro legacies, which keeps prices below what its scarcity would suggest.

Art from the Island of Aphrodite

Cypriot banknotes feature Roman mosaics, Mycenaean pottery, the bust of Aphrodite, and an archaic female figure that appears on several denominations. It is an archaeological numismatics, rare in Europe.

One island, two currencies

The north of the island has used the Turkish lira since 1974, so Cyprus is one of the few territories where two currencies from different countries have coexisted. This gives rise to a collection with two branches.
