Sold exclusively as a collector's item: these are uncirculated numismatic pieces for collectors, not currency for exchange or a means of payment.
There is a detail on the 100,000 Iranian rial banknote (Pick 163, 100,000 rials Iran) that almost no one notices: at the top left of the reverse, in tiny print, there appears a poem in English. These are Saadi's most famous verses on the unity of humanity. It is equivalent to 10 tomans, and the specimen we are selling is a 2026 printing of the design launched at the end of 2020.
You can buy it in uncirculated condition on its product page (P163) or as part of our set of 10 Iranian banknotes.
The reverse: the Saadieh and its poem
- The verse in English: "Human beings are members of a whole, in creation of one essence and soul." This is the opening of the poem Bani Adam, from the Gulistan, and it is reproduced on a large Persian tapestry at the UN headquarters in New York.
- The building: Saadi's tomb in Shiraz, built between 1950 and 1952 according to the design by Mohsen Foroughi. On the banknote, you can see the portico of stone pillars, reminiscent of the columns of Persepolis, and behind it, the octagonal volume topped by a dome that, in reality, is made of turquoise blue tiles.
- The trees on both sides frame the monument, which is set in a garden.
- The broken black strip that runs across the design from top to bottom is not a defect: it is the windowed security thread, which emerges on the surface of the paper.
- The number "100000" with highlighted zeros, the "10" in red, and the text "ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND RIALS."
The obverse
- Khomeini in green, on the left, with a floral rosette next to him.
- A dot pattern in relief at the top and light and dark green diagonal bands.
- The "10" in Latin and Persian numerals, the value in letters, and the signatures.
A banknote that keeps changing signatures
As one of the most used banknotes in the country, the Central Bank constantly reprints it, and every time the governor or the Minister of Economy changes, a new signature variety appears: BanknoteNews documented one in 2025 and another in June 2026. For the specialized collector, gathering these varieties is a small challenge.
Who was Saadi?
Saadi of Shiraz (13th century) traveled for decades throughout the Middle East before returning to his city to write the Bustan ("The Orchard") and the Gulistan ("The Rose Garden"), two of the most widely read books in Persian literature. His tomb is a few kilometers from that of Hafez, and Iranians often visit both on the same day.

For your collection
The same tomb of Saadi already appeared on the 100,000 rial banknote 2010-2019. Place them side by side: the design is almost identical, but the new one adds the "10" for the tomans and completely changes the composition.
Remember: it is sold as a collector's item and cannot be paid for with PayPal. International shipping, original and uncirculated banknotes, and specialized assistance for any questions.
