⚠️ First of all: Iranian banknotes cannot be paid for with PayPal. Due to PayPal's policies regarding products of Iranian origin, you will have to choose another of the available payment methods at checkout.

Sold exclusively as a collector's item: these are uncirculated numismatic pieces for collectors, not currency for exchange or a means of payment.

When it appeared in 2010, the 100,000 rial banknote (Pick 151e, 100000 rials Iran) was the highest-value banknote ever issued by the Central Bank of Iran (not counting Iran Cheques). It is a large-format note (166 × 79 mm), printed in Iran by the state-owned TAKAB facility, and features the Tomb of Saadi with his famous verse on the reverse. It was reprinted until 2019 with different signatures; the variety we sell is one of the last ones.

We sell it uncirculated in its product page (P151e) and it is part of our set of 4 banknotes from the previous series.

The reverse: Saadi among cypresses

  • The Tomb of Saadi in Shiraz, with its portico of tall pillars and, behind it, the octagonal structure with the dome.
  • Rows of cypresses and trees on both sides: the monument is in a garden, and the cypress is one of the most prominent trees in Persian poetry.
  • The verse in English, at the top left: «Human beings are members of a whole, in creation of one essence and soul». Next to it, the same verse in Persian calligraphy.
  • The legend «100 000 RIALS ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND RIALS» in a bottom strip.

The building was constructed between 1950 and 1952 based on the design by Mohsen Foroughi, with eight stone pillars, a blue-tiled dome, and seven of Saadi's poems engraved on the walls.

The obverse

  • Khomeini on the right.
  • A large golden rosette in the center, with a star pattern.
  • A green band with arabesque motifs at the bottom.
  • The value in letters («one hundred thousand rials») in red and the figure «100000» in the corners.

Security and technical specifications

Watermark of Khomeini with the figure «100000» and two security threads: one thin, visible only when held up to the light, and another wider windowed thread, both with «I.R. IRAN».

  • Catalog: Pick 151e · Date: undated (2010-2019 series)
  • Format: 166 × 79 mm · Paper: cotton · Printing: TAKAB (Amol, Iran)

Ten years later

In 2020, the Central Bank redesigned this denomination as part of the toman series, with the same Saadi but with the «10» highlighted. You can compare it with the 100,000 rial banknote 2026 (10 tomans): the drawing of the tomb is very similar, but everything else has changed.

For your collection

It is the largest banknote in our Iran collection and, due to its format and green color, one of the most eye-catching in an album.

Remember: it is sold as a collector's item and does not accept payment via PayPal. All our banknotes are original, uncirculated, and we ship them worldwide.
