500,000 rial banknote-check (Iran Cheque) from the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran, undated 2018, uncirculated. Cataloged as Pick 164(3).

Obverse: Mount Damavand, the highest volcano in Western Asia (5,610 m) and a national symbol of Iran. Reverse: Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad, the largest Shia pilgrimage complex in the world.

The Iran Cheque is a special high-denomination issue from the Central Bank, functionally equivalent to legal tender. Damavand is a mythical symbol in Persian culture; the Mashhad shrine receives tens of millions of pilgrims every year.
