⚠️ First of all: Iranian banknotes cannot be paid for with PayPal. Due to PayPal's policies regarding products of Iranian origin, you will need to choose another available payment method at checkout.
Sold exclusively as a collectible item: these are uncirculated numismatic pieces for collectors, not currency for exchange or a means of payment.
The 2017 10,000 rial banknote (Pick 159c, 10000 rials Iran) is the link connecting two eras: it was the last "classic" 10,000 rial note, with the value written out without tricks, before the new one arrived in 2022 with the "1" representing tomans. It is smaller than its predecessors (142 × 71 mm) and green in color. Our specimen is from the 2017-2019 print runs.
We sell it in uncirculated condition in our product page (P159c) and in our set of 4 banknotes from the previous series.
The reverse: the Hafez Pavilion
- The pavilion of the tomb of Hafez in Shiraz, drawn from a low angle: you can see the stone columns and the dervish-hat-shaped dome, here in bluish tones.
- Blue calligraphy on the left half, occupying almost as much space as the building: a nod to the fact that what is being honored is poetry.
- The full "10000" figure, without clarified zeros, and the legend "TEN THOUSAND RIALS".
- Greenish-yellow background with a strip of geometric patterns.
The pavilion was designed by André Godard in 1935 on the site where King Karim Khan Zand had erected the first monument in 1773. Hafez, a 14th-century master of the ghazal, is so popular that even today his Divan is opened at random to "ask" him about the future.
The obverse
- Khomeini in dark engraving, on the left.
- A red and green circular medallion to the left of the portrait.
- The value in letters ("ten thousand rials") in red and black, on the right, under the bank's name.
- Diagonal bands of green and yellow, and the "10000" figure at the bottom left.
