Obverse: portrait of painter Nicolae Grigorescu, considered the founder of modern Romanian painting, next to a mallow flower. Reverse: a traditional dwelling from the Oltenia region, in the south of the country, and a reproduction of Rodica, one of Grigorescu's most well-known paintings.

Grigorescu uniquely portrayed 19th-century Romanian rural life, and his presence on the 10 lei banknote reflects the weight that the national painting school has in the country's identity. A common circulation banknote, sought after especially by those assembling the complete series of the eight polymer denominations.
