Obverse: Fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the same used throughout this 1980s series. Reverse: The rifleman, known in Māori as titipounamu, an endemic New Zealand forest bird, alongside red mistletoe flowers (Peraxilla tetrapetala).

Signature and prefix variant within the 1981-1985 series, prior to the replacement of the 2-dollar note with a coin in the early 1990s, which made this paper denomination a closed and non-renewable issue. A good option for anyone looking for this denomination in high preservation or completing the pair of Elizabeth II portraits on the New Zealand dollar.
