From the Ottoman lira to the Banque du Liban

Following the fall of the Ottoman Empire, the Egyptian pound circulated first, followed by the Syrian pound; Lebanon minted its own currency in 1924 and issued its first banknotes in 1925. Since 1964, the Banque du Liban has been responsible for printing them.

A banknote for every stage of inflation

Current denominations range from 1,000 to 100,000 pounds, each with a distinct color; those with the highest value are the most recent, added as the currency lost value against the dollar.
