Obverse: Effigy of painter and muralist Diego Rivera next to a vignette based on his work Desnudo con alcatraces (Nude with Calla Lilies), with brushes and palette. Reverse: Effigy of Frida Kahlo, next to a reproduction of her painting El abrazo de amor del universo, la Tierra, Yo, Diego y el señor Xólotl (The Love Embrace of the Universe, the Earth, Myself, Diego, and Mr. Xólotl). When held up to the light, elements from both sides combine to form a map of the Mexican Republic with a compass rose.
