This gold peso fraction belonged to the series of low-denomination banknotes that the Dominican Central Bank put into circulation in the early 1960s, in the final stages of the Trujillo era, intended to replace fractional metal currency in a context of scarcity. Specimen examples of this series were distributed to correspondent banks and official organizations as reference models, so their print run was much smaller than that of legal tender banknotes.

As a short-lived fractional series, with denominations that are curious today—ten, twenty-five, fifty centavos—this piece is of particular interest to collectors of mid-20th century Dominican numismatics and to specialists in specimen examples, which are much rarer than their circulating counterparts.
