1000 Cuban peso banknote issued by the Central Bank of Cuba in 2023, Pick 132c*, replacement note (serial prefix JZ), certified by PMG with a grade of 65 EPQ and qualified as TOP POP, the highest grade recorded by the grading company for this banknote: no other specimen is registered above it.

Obverse: portrait of Julio Antonio Mella, founder of the Federation of University Students and the first Communist Party of Cuba. Reverse: the University of Havana building, with its signature staircase and neoclassical portico.

Replacement banknotes are printed to replace defective sheets detected during the printing process, which is why their print run is much lower than that of the ordinary issue; combined with the TOP POP qualification, this explains the interest it sparks among collectors of the modern Cuban peso series, the highest denomination put into circulation after the 2021 monetary reform.
