Obverse: portrait of Julio Antonio Mella, student leader and founder of the first Communist Party of Cuba. Reverse: view of the main building of the University of Havana, with its famous staircase.

This 1000 peso banknote belongs to the first issue of this denomination, introduced as part of the 2021 monetary reform known as the "Tarea Ordenamiento," which unified the Cuban peso and raised the ceiling for banknotes in circulation.
