Colombia. 5000 Pesos 1988 P-435b Rarest Date PMG 65 EPQ

5,000 Colombian peso banknote, issued by the Bank of the Republic on August 5, 1988, Pick 435b, noted by catalogs as one of the rarest dates in this series. Certified by PMG with a grade of 65 EPQ, exceptional paper quality, uncirculated, and encapsulated in its sealed holder.

Obverse: Portrait of Rafael Núñez with the Cabrero hermitage in Cartagena next to his effigy. Reverse: Statue of Miguel Antonio Caro, with his signature and a list of the states that comprised the United States of Colombia until the centralist Constitution of 1886, including Antioquia, Cundinamarca, Magdalena, Panama, and Tolima. This design, first used in 1986 for the centennial of the Constitution, was maintained in subsequent issues such as this one until the arrival of the banknote dedicated to José Asunción Silva in 1995.

Its status as a rare date within an otherwise common series makes this specimen an item of interest for collectors seeking to complete the Núñez series by year of issue rather than by the design itself.
