Obverse: portrait of Bishop and Licentiate Francisco Marroquín, defender of the indigenous people and founder of the Colegio Mayor, over a stepped pyramid, with a quetzal in flight, a richly attired Mayan figure, the Guatemalan flag, and a green security strip. Reverse: the cloister of the University of San Carlos de Borromeo, founded in 1676, formerly the Colegio Mayor, in Antigua Guatemala.

Francisco Marroquín was the first bishop of Guatemala and the promoter of higher education in the country; his legacy gave rise to the University of San Carlos, one of the oldest in the Americas. This 100 quetzal note is the circulation banknote that precedes the 2025 commemorative (Pick 130), dedicated to the 350th anniversary of that same university, and forms a natural pair with it.
