1 pound sterling banknote issued by The Royal Bank of Scotland plc dated May 12, 1999, uncirculated (UNC) and cataloged as Pick 360. This is the commemorative issue for the first session of the Scottish Parliament, with the SP prefix numbering.

Obverse: the portrait of Lord Ilay, the bank's first governor, with the inscription "Commemorating the First Meeting of the Scottish Parliament," the flag of Scotland with the Saltire of St. Andrew, the bank's coat of arms, and the facade of its Edinburgh headquarters in the background. Reverse: the building labeled "Scottish Parliament Building," at The Mound (Edinburgh), where the chamber held its first sessions, alongside a geometric color composition.

On May 12, 1999, Scotland once again had its own parliament nearly three centuries after the 1707 union with England, and the Royal Bank of Scotland celebrated it with this banknote dated that same day. It is also one of the final issues of the 1-pound note, which Scottish banks maintained even after it had been replaced by coins in England. A classic piece of the Scottish commemorative series, alongside those of Stevenson and Graham Bell.
