Collection: CHEAP NOTES

Affordable and Authentic Collectible Banknotes

Affordable does not mean fake or poor quality. All banknotes in this section are original, issued by their central bank, just like any other piece in the catalog. What makes them affordable is their print run: millions were printed, many specimens survived, and their market value is low. Nothing more.

Why such affordable banknotes exist

The price of a banknote is determined by three things: how many were printed, how many survived, and how many people are looking for them. Low denominations from countries with high inflation meet all three conditions in the opposite direction of scarcity: they were issued in enormous quantities, quickly lost their use value, and for that reason, many people kept them without spending them. The result is banknotes that have been in perfect uncirculated condition for decades and cost less than a coffee.

That doesn't make them less interesting. Many have excellent designs, tell specific historical episodes, and are exactly the same object that a collector would pay dearly for if the print run had been different.

Who this section is for

  • Those who are starting out and want to try. It's the sensible way to find out if collecting hooks you before spending seriously.
  • Those who collect by country. With a low budget, you can cover a lot of the map. It's the natural way to have the largest possible number of issuers represented.
  • Parents and teachers. It works very well with children and in the classroom: geography, history, and economics in an object that can be held in hand.
  • Gifts and presents. A banknote from a country someone has a connection to costs little and is remembered much more than a generic item of the same price.
  • Those who collect by design. Fauna, architecture, portraits, space themes. There are themes
