10 new soles banknote issued by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru in 2006, cataloged as Pick 179b, uncirculated.

Obverse: the portrait of Lieutenant José Abelardo Quiñones Gonzáles, hero of Peruvian military aviation, next to a monument with a fighter plane on top. Reverse: the illustration of a biplane in inverted maneuver, in green and yellow tones over the banknote.

Quiñones, who died in 1941 during the border conflict with Ecuador after deliberately crashing his plane into an enemy position, is one of the most remembered figures of the Peruvian armed forces; this design remained on the 10 soles banknote for more than a decade, making it attractive to both military aviation collectors and those who collect the different dates of this series.
