Libyan 1-dinar banknote, undated (circulated around 1984), cataloged as Pick 49 and issued by the Central Bank of Libya. Uncirculated.

This issue belongs to the so-called third series of the Libyan dinar, printed during the 1980s, a period before the introduction of Muammar Gaddafi's portrait on the country's banknotes, which would not appear until later series. Libya had adopted the dinar in 1971, replacing the Libyan pound, and during these decades maintained a design with dominant green tones common to several consecutive low-denomination issues.

Libyan banknotes from before the 2011 regime change are increasingly sought-after by collectors, as they graphically document a political era that has completely disappeared from the country's current paper money; a low-denomination issue that is accessible to anyone wishing to learn about this history.
