Jamaica 50-dollar banknote, Bank of Jamaica, issued in 2008, Pick 83c, uncirculated.

Obverse: Portrait of Samuel Sharpe, a Baptist preacher who led the 1831-32 slave rebellion known as the Baptist War. Reverse: Doctor's Cave Beach in Montego Bay, one of Jamaica's most famous tourist spots, featuring palm trees, bathers, the Bank of Jamaica building, and a crocodile among other motifs.

The rebellion led by Sharpe accelerated the abolition of slavery in the British Empire in 1834, and he is one of the seven recognized National Heroes of Jamaica. The contrast between the slave past and the tourist postcard on the reverse perfectly summarizes the dual narrative that Jamaica tells on its banknotes.
