German East Africa 1-Rupie note, issued by the German Imperial Government, dated February 1, 1916, Pick 19, PMG 63 (Choice Uncirculated) certified.

Obverse: The German imperial eagle in the upper left corner, within a frame with seven stars, and bilingual text with the value and reference to the Dar es Salaam and Tabora squares. Reverse: The legal text of the issue, warning of prison sentences of no less than two years for counterfeiting, along with the serial number.

This banknote was printed during World War I, when the German colony, isolated by the British naval blockade, had to issue emergency paper money backed by the Imperial Government itself to sustain colonial resistance in East Africa. An issue of great historical interest for those who collect colonial and Great War paper money.
