2,000 colones banknote from the Central Bank of Costa Rica, dated 1997, Pick 265a, uncirculated.

Obverse: Portrait of Costa Rican scientist Clodomiro Picado Twight, known for his research on snake venoms, alongside a vignette of Cocos Island. Reverse: A marine scene with a hammerhead shark and a dolphin, alluding to the fauna surrounding this Costa Rican Pacific enclave.

The design, created by graphic arts student Marco Morales Salazar, combines a tribute to national science with the natural heritage of Cocos Island, a national park since 1978; it is a common intermediate denomination among those collecting the Costa Rican series prior to the polymer banknotes.
