Obverse: Portrait of Joseph Maurice Paturau, a prominent Mauritian businessman and industrialist, alongside the national coat of arms featuring the dodo and sambar deer, the headquarters of the Bank of Mauritius, and a blindfolded allegory of Justice holding scales. Reverse: The Le Caudan waterfront in Port Louis, a popular meeting point for tourists and residents.

This paper design remained in circulation throughout the 2000s before giving way to the 2013 polymer version with the same iconography, allowing collectors to acquire both versions of the Mauritian fifty rupee note. An affordable banknote for those starting out in Indian Ocean numismatics.
